Kids Away? Now’s the Perfect Time to Create your Bar Mitzvah Album

When my kids were younger and away at camp during the summer, I found that lull (ahh…a quiet house!) to be the perfect time to take a breather and do all the things I’d been meaning to do, before diving into relaxation mode. One of the “things” I’ve tackled at this time was creating my children’s Bar Mitzvah albums. It turned out to be such a perfect project for that time of year, I advise all my Bar Mitzvah clients to do the same.
Creating your child’s Bar Mitzvah album is the ideal activity when you’re missing your kids. Looking at family pictures is a lovely (even comforting) way to spend a few quiet hours. Plus, if you create your album now, it probably will be delivered before your kids return to school in the fall.
The hardest part is getting started. Sorting through all the pictures can seem overwhelming, and deciding on which to use for the photo album can seem impossible. But done step-by-step, the process can actually be easy and fun.
The best way to start selecting photos for the Bar Mitzvah album is to systemically narrow down the pictures, until you are left with a manageable amount. Remember to designate your favorites for frames and for giving to grandparents. Many people make smaller albums for the grandparents – always a treasured gift.
If you have your images on a disk, I strongly advise getting proofs made, at least of your favorite 250 photos. It’s difficult to accurately judge expressions and other nuances when you’re comparing images from one frame to another on a computer screen. Most people find it far easier to physically lay out all the photos side-by-side.
From there, systematically sorting the photos is easy, once you know the steps. To make it even easier, we’ve created a How-To Guide that walks you through the process. Feel free to watch the video here or sign up for our newsletter and download it for a more details and helpful tips.
